Program Description
Making Waves in axSpA and HS: Connecting Diseases Through Shared Immune Pathways
November 8, 2026 | 5:30–7:30 PM ET
Sponsored by UCB
Lianne Gensler, MD and Steven Daveluy, MD, FAAD
Join our expert rheumatology and dermatology speakers, Dr. Lianne Gensler and Dr. Steven Daveluy, as they make waves across axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), connecting the diseases through shared immune pathways. Together, they will dive deeper into the interplay between innate and adaptive immunity in axSpA and HS, and examine how early control of inflammation and proactive, shared management can help improve patient outcomes.
The session will delve into the significant burden of disease experienced by patients living with axSpA and HS, from the physical impact of chronic inflammation and pain to the wider effects on quality of life. Dr. Gensler and Dr. Daveluy will also examine the clinical overlap between these conditions, highlighting the importance of recognizing HS in patients with axSpA.
With a particular focus on HS, the expert speakers will discuss the signs and symptoms that rheumatologists should look out for in clinical practice. They will share practical insights into identifying patients who may benefit from further assessment and discuss opportunities for closer collaboration between rheumatology and dermatology teams.
The session will also consider how early and effective control of inflammation, proactive monitoring, and coordinated management across specialties can help address the complex burden of disease. By bringing rheumatology and dermatology perspectives together, the session aims to equip rheumatologists with greater confidence in recognizing potential disease overlap, determining appropriate next steps, and working collaboratively to deliver more patient-centered care.
