Poster title: Inpatient Epidemiology and Resource Utilization of Ankylosing Spondylitis: National Inpatient Sample 2018

Poster Session B
8:30 – 10:30 a.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 7
All ACR Convergence 2021 poster presentations are available on demand to registered meeting participants through March 11, 2022.

What is your poster about?
It’s about epidemiology, cost, and expenditure of patients with ankylosing spondylitis who were hospitalized.

Why did you decide to investigate this topic?
The economic aspect of rheumatologic care is often neglected. I tried to raise more awareness and provide some data on this.

What are you working on next related to this research?
I am going to look into the epidemiology, cost, and expenditure of other rheumatologic diseases as well.

What excites you most about your work?
I found that hospitalizations of patients with AS (ankylosing spondylitis) were associated with a significantly longer length of stay, higher rate of ICU admission, and cost. Good disease control to avoid hospitalization is, thus, important from both a clinical and an economic standpoint.
