Dermatomyositis in Focus: What Do We Know about Immunoglobulin Therapy?

October 28 from 10:30 am 11:15 am CDT

Innovation Theater A, Marriott Marquis | Developed and offered by Octapharma

Program Description

The management of dermatomyositis continues to evolve as new insights emerge on the mechanisms of immune modulation and the role of biomarkers in predicting treatment response. Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) has become a valuable therapeutic option for adult patients with dermatomyositis, but the complexity of its mechanism of action and variability in patient response remain areas of active exploration.

During this session, Dr. Iazsmin Bauer-Ventura will open with an overview of the disease landscape and the immunomodulatory role of IVIg in dermatomyositis. Her presentation will delve into the multifaceted mechanisms by which immunoglobulins exert therapeutic effects and modulate immune responses in dermatomyositis. Real-world case experiences will also be explored.

Dr. Christina Charles-Schoeman will then focus on the clinical implications of IVIg therapy, drawing from phase 3 trial data. Her talk will explore how dermatomyositis can affect organs beyond the skin and muscle, and will spotlight a critical question in disease management: do autoantibody profiles predict who responds to IVIg therapy?

The program will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with faculty and gain practical insights to apply in clinical decision making.
