Pediatric Rheumatology Session Promises to Be a (Ka)Hoot for Attendees

Question: Which ACR Convergence 2025 session tests and expands attendees’ knowledge via a fast-paced, fun, and competitive game show format?

Answer: Engage and Solve: Pediatric Rheumatology Kahoot! Game, on Tuesday, October 28, from 9–9:45 a.m. in Room W187A-C of McCormick Place.

After a successful pilot in 2024, the game-based session is returning in 2025 to test pediatric specialists’ knowledge in an exciting and engaging environment.

“The Pediatric Planning Committee wanted to create an opportunity for the pediatric rheumatology community to come together and just have a fun time,” said Pui Lee, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, one of the featured speakers. “One of the unique aspects of this session is that it’s for the entire community, from every level of training. It’s rare to have everyone doing the same program together, and that brings in a lot of the fun and some intensity in terms of the competition.”

The questions for this year’s session will be formed around two core diseases: juvenile myositis and vasculitis.

Attendees need only a smartphone or laptop to participate in the interactive program, and collaboration is not only allowed but encouraged, particularly among trainees. The exercise is designed to spark discussions among participants and build connections within the pediatric rheumatology community.

The session will consist of multiple-choice and true/false questions. Participants will have a limited time to select the correct answer from the options provided. Each question will be followed by a brief explanation using teaching pearls to reinforce key concepts and facilitate learning.

“The Kahoot questions are drawn from important recent papers, recent guidelines, and items that should be known and understood by practicing pediatric rheumatologists. We aim to test core knowledge while also spotlighting updates across diagnosis, treatment, and disease monitoring,” explained Susan Shenoi, MD, MS, Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, who established the session in 2024 and is returning as a speaker this year.

Participants will earn points for each correct answer, as well as for the speed with which they’re able to submit their responses. Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers at the end of the session.

“Last year, people loved the instant feedback and playful vibe — it was a great way to reinforce learning without the formality of a traditional lecture,” Dr. Shenoi said. “So, bring your A-game, your sense of humor, and your phone (or device) to play. Whether you win or not, you’ll leave smarter — and maybe a little more competitive than you expected.”

ACR Convergence 2025 attendees can explore the comprehensive list of pediatric rheumatology sessions in the online program. On-demand access to recorded presentations will be available to registered attendees of ACR Convergence following the annual meeting through October 31, 2026.
