175 Foundation-funded rheumatologists, health professionals, and trainees recognized

Rheumatology Research Foundation President Eric Matteson, MD, MPH, recognized 175 award recipients on Monday at the Foundation’s Annual Awards Luncheon.

Held at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC, the event honored the accomplishments of Foundation-funded students, residents, educators, fellows, and professionals who are working to improve patient care.

In congratulating the award recipients, Dr. Matteson emphasized the impact of their work on the lives of patients and on the field of rheumatology.

“The future of rheumatology depends on having well-trained rheumatology professionals,” he said. “Our ability to treat patients and to conquer all rheumatic diseases depends on having these advancements in science that the Foundation fosters.”

The Foundation offers a variety of awards to support rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals throughout all stages of their careers, from students to established professionals. Since its inception in 1985, the Foundation has granted more than 2,600 individual awards and committed more than $143 million directly to research and training.
