The ACR Committee on Journal Publications, along with additional individuals with extensive journal experience who worked with the committee on an ad hoc basis, met in July to select the next editor of Arthritis Care & Research.

After extensive review of the applications, the committee agreed that the application submitted by Marian T. Hannan, DSc, MPH, had the most comprehensive integration of vision, editorial team, and practicality, and recommended that she be selected for a second term as Editor-in-Chief of AC&R. Leslie J. Crofford, MD, will serve as Deputy Editor during the 2016–2021 term. The ACR board of directors unanimously approved the committee’s recommendation in August.

“While it is unusual for an Editor to apply for a second term, I feel that I have built a firm foundation and am ready to launch the next phase of plans to further extend the journal’s depth and breadth and to create a clear pathway of clinically-based communications for its readership,” Dr. Hannan said. “I look forward to working with Leslie Crofford as Deputy Editor, as she brings a particular focus on rheumatology education and research. The newly organized editorial team has a wide interdisciplinary range of rheumatologic interests and focus. This blending of strengths will bring essential clinical insights and will broaden our scope for our readership.”

Search Committee Chair Nancy Baker, ScD, OTR/L, said, “The ACR Committee on Journal Publications had a difficult task this year, given the high caliber of the applicants. We are delighted that Drs. Hannan and Crofford have agreed to continue as Editor-in-Chief and start as the new Deputy Editor of AC&R. Under their combined leadership, I am confident that the journal will continue to grow and evolve.”

Dr. Hannan is a senior scientist and co-director of Musculoskeletal Research at the Institute for Aging Research, Hebrew SeniorLife, and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Crofford is director of the Division of Rheumatology & Immunology at Vanderbilt University, where she also serves as professor, Department of Medicine and Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology.
