What is your poster about?
The objective of our study was to assess the impact of the Supreme Court’s June 24, 2022, decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on individuals with rheumatic diseases and their access to care.

Why did you decide to investigate this topic?
Since the Supreme Court’s decision, there have been numerous anecdotal reports in social media, news media, and from advocacy organizations that rheumatology patients have experienced barriers to care. We wanted to provide a rigorous analysis on this topic and help characterize the scope and severity of these issues.

What are you working on next related to this research?
We are preparing a manuscript for publication, and we have incorporated new questions on this topic into our semiannual questionnaire to gather additional data and monitor this situation.

What excites you most about your work?
I am grateful to be in a position to obtain and share this data with the rheumatology community. I am hopeful that this information will benefit patients and providers and also help mitigate some of the consequences that patients are suffering as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision.
